Mauro Castellani vive e lavora a Firenze. Si è occupato a livello professionale di Medicina Molecolare. Ha avuto esperienze in differenti ambiti delle Arti Figurative, dalla pittura alla pubblicità, al design di gioielli. Ha realizzato reportage fotografici in Europa, America, Asia e Medio Oriente. Con il diploma in Arti Visive e Pittura all’Accademia delle Belle Arti di Firenze, le sue tradizionali geometrie fotografiche hanno acquisito un carattere di ripetitività del segno, sono cresciute l’attenzione al colore e l’attitudine all’uso dell’astrazione. Dopo la riflessione sull’equilibrio uomo-creato, ha posto l’accento sulla percezione come elaborazione retina-cervello visivo e quindi sulla relatività e indeterminatezza della realtà, lavorando anche sulla fisiognomica e sull’autoritratto come testimonianze del trascorrere del tempo e della condizione di smarrimento, inadeguatezza e disagio nel vivere l’attuale realtà. Significativa è la ricerca sull’agire quotidiano dell’uomo, come messa in scena di un ruolo pubblico che caratterizza e insieme toglie identità, divenendo maschera. Ha poi ritratto artigiani, artisti e le loro botteghe. Negli anni più recenti è tornata l’attenzione ai problemi ambientali e sociali, trattati anche in un libro fotografico dal titolo Il clima del virus, del 2022.
Mauro Castellani is an Italian artist. He lives and works in Florence. He has been involved in Molecular Medicine for 25 years while simultaneously being active in different forms of the figurative arts, ranging from painting to advertising and jewelry design. He graduated in Visual Arts & Painting at the Academy of Fine Art in Florence, where his traditional photographic geometries acquired a repetitive character of the shapes, and his attention to color and the emphasis on abstraction in his works grew. He has created photographic reportages in Europe, North America, East Asia and the Middle East. Since his early works, a reflection on the man-nature balance has often been present. At a later stage, he placed the emphasis on perception as retina-visual brain processing and therefore on relativity and indeterminacy of reality. Over time he developed this concept further, studying physiognomic and self-portrait, to document the evidence of the passage of time, the feeling of being lost, the inadequacy and discomfort of living in this current reality. The research on the daily action of man is significant, as a staging of a public role that characterizes and at the same time takes away identity, becoming a mask.
